HB 36 – Hathaway Scholarship – Amendments

We Support This Bill.

Summary: AN ACT relating to the Hathaway scholarship program; clarifying that the definition of "certificate" includes trade certificate programs; An introduced amendment now eliminates the requirement of students to work or attend graduate school in Wyoming for a specified time in order to receive a Hathaway scholarship; requiring rulemaking; specifying applicability; and providing for effective dates.
Why It Matters: Every Wyoming community is experiencing a shortage of workers, including in the fields of health and childcare. This bill helps address the problem by expanding the Hathaway Scholarship to include non-certificate programs available through the community college system and the university, including a number that largely impact women such as public health and early childhood. This bill is an opportunity to build skills and build the strength of our communities.
