HB 138 – Suicide prevention.
We Support This Bill.
Summary: AN ACT relating to education; requiring suicide prevention education; and providing for an effective date.
Why It Matters: Wyoming has the highest suicide rate in the nation; it is more than double the national average. Prevention education that is provided in this bill is one step that is necessary to reduce the rate of death by suicide. Suicide prevention education that is age-appropriate and evidence-based, as required in this bill, is vital for the health of our children. Adolescent and young adult suicide make up over 15% of suicides in Wyoming and the suicide rate for 15-19 year olds in Wyoming is double that of the nation.
